Celebrating First Light for a new generation

On 30 November 2025, over 20 donors and friends gathered to celebrate the opening of the First Light Boatshed — a newly restored space for Bible study, prayer and quiet reflection at Port Hacking. The vision to repurpose the old Rathane boatshed was championed by John Cross, Don Robertson and Andrew Hudson, with support from long-time camping friends.

Archbishop Harry Goodhew officially opened the boatshed and unveiled a plaque honouring the Rev. Neville Bathgate, pioneer of the Port Hacking camps, noting “What God has done in this place over the years is just outstanding.”

For John Cross, the name “First Light” captures both the dawn over Port Hacking and the hope of Jesus, the ‘light of the world’.

Heartfelt thanks to all who made this restoration possible, helping nurture young Christians today and for generations to come.
