What’s new? New Creation Kids
New Creation Kids (NCK) is a new children’s ministry digital curriculum from Youthworks for church-based children’s ministries. The three-year cycle aims to provide:
High-quality, theologically rich Bible teaching for young people
Everything leaders need to help children grow in their knowledge and love of Jesus
Churches with the resources to strengthen their partnership with the home
Over to the Youthworks Ministry Support team to tell you more.
What is the key focus of NCK?
Cam Harte: NCK is Bible-centred. Kids will spend six months in the Old Testament and six months in the New Testament every year. They will cover the whole Bible story over the course of the three years. The leader content helps leaders focus on digging deep into the Bible for themselves first and then preparing to teach children in engaging ways. We want our leaders to be growing as disciples and in turn, growing young disciples.
What else is included?
Adam Jolliffe: There are family discipleship resources built into NCK, with home reading cards to give out each week. There’s also a variety of extra resources leaders can share with parents to strengthen the leader/parent partnership.
Annemarie Rivers: NCK aligns with the training junior leaders receive at LIT (Leaders in Training) camps. The Teaching Target method of exploring a Bible passage is familiar to LIT campers and it’s used every week in NCK. This gives junior leaders a headstart on understanding how to use this content well. NCK also aligns with the training available to all leaders via Training Ministry Teams.
Di Lucas: Growing leaders is a key feature of NCK. There’s a podcast for every week of the content that gives leaders the opportunity to hear experienced ministry workers discuss the Bible passage and how to teach it well to kids.
Why did you create NCK?
Meaghan Turner: We’re excited to have produced something by Australians for the Australian church context. Our team has developed the 7 Principles of Effective Ministry to Children and Youth and this curriculum applies these principles in church-based children’s ministry.
Annemarie Rivers: Yes, particularly in the areas of partnering with parents and training and equipping leaders. We also recognise that every church context is different, so leaders need to be able to adapt for the context they serve in and the kids in front of them, whether there are five or fifty. This curriculum aims to provide what leaders need to design a Bible-focused teaching time that suits their context so there are lots of ideas and options to choose from.
What makes NCK different?
Annemarie Rivers: NCK is different to other curriculums in that it is not designed to be ‘pick up and go’. We want leaders to be putting time into preparing their teaching, not winging it on Sunday mornings, because our children are precious and teaching them well is part of our responsibility to the next generation.
Why is it a three-year children’s ministry curriculum rather than ‘pick and choose’ style?
Cam Harte: Many churches follow the preaching program with the goal of equipping families for home discipleship (though there may be other reasons). However, in many cases this means that children are missing out on key foundational doctrines due to the different rhythms of Sunday preaching programs and the requirements of children’s ministry curriculum. We believe that we can meet these (and many other) goals starting with laying the biblical foundation through a planned children’s ministry curriculum.
How can people access NCK?
Cam Harte: NCK is an online subscription resource. Right now, people can visit the website to sign up for updates, prayer requests and see a sample week of content. From November 2026, children’s ministers can subscribe and create their own login, then invite all of their team so every leader has their own login to access the content directly without the need to buy multiple books or print every week.
