Your support is training a new generation of SRE teachers like Jess
Thanks to you, a new generation of SRE teachers is stepping into classrooms across Sydney – and Jess Duncan is one of them.
Jess is studying for a Bachelor of Ministry, working part-time as a youth intern, and has just completed her SRE teacher training. In term 2 she began teaching a Year 7 SRE class — and her enthusiasm is contagious:
“From the first day I started helping with SRE, I thought ‘I would happily do this every day. I love it!’”
Jess is discovering first-hand the importance of opening the Bible with her students, many of whom have never even read God’s word before. She says,
“I get to help someone figure out how to read the Bible, how to find the chapter and verse … it’s so special to be able to do this.”
Teaching SRE in a school with fairly significant student behaviour problems, Jess is amazed at the way the students respond to SRE. She shares,
“There are some students who are known for being disruptive, but they behave so well in our classes. It’s pretty incredible to witness this. The students actually like being able to talk about things that matter in life!”
This year, 130 people registered for Module 1 of the SRE teacher training – a six-year high. Jess is among the first of many more to come. Thank you for your role in placing new teachers like Jess in SRE classrooms.
Will you pray for Jess and the 130 new teachers already in training, and for hundreds more to follow as SRE continues to grow?
