Strengthening SRE in Schools for Specific Purposes

Bec Baines is Youthworks’ Accessibility Ministry Advisor. Her heart is for all young people to learn about Jesus, including in public Schools for Specific Purposes (SSPs), supporting students with complex learning and support needs. She says,

“Young people with disability are very isolated … when a church volunteer comes to their school as an SRE teacher to spend time with and care for these kids, it truly means something to them.”

Bec provides tailored support and advice to SRE teachers working in SSPs, like Marian, a long-serving SRE teacher at Arranounbai School on Sydney’s northern beaches. She’s visited Marian’s classes, sharing ideas and resources to help her engage students more meaningfully through storytelling.
