Response to Connect articles 21/4/16

21 April, 2016

Some media outlets have reported on an opinion piece attacking our Connect SRE material, which in one lesson suggests students act out the battle between David and Goliath, one of the most well-known stories in history.

Parents and schools can be reassured that all of our teaching materials are developed by professional educators and teach traditional Christianity from the Bible – in line with what parents expect when they choose to enrol their children in SRE. We are confident that our trained and accredited teachers deliver it in a sensitive manner that ensures the educational aims and outcomes are successfully met.

Whilst this is clearly part of a larger smear campaign against SRE by atheist lobby groups, Youthworks does acknowledge that the cultural context of our society has changed since the lesson plan was written, and in light of this we have decided to update our teaching guide for this lesson.

There is also a wider review of our SRE curriculum and teaching materials underway to continue to provide the high standard of educational outcomes that parents have come to expect. The curriculum is publicly available on our website.
