Can I get there?
There are two ‘modes’ of attendance for Year 13. The Continuous mode involves two days per week on campus, whilst the Intensive mode involves four residential blocks during the year. Both cover the same material and engage in all the same activities, but they are structured to enable students to choose a mode that best suits them.
Key elements of the year, like orientation, Fiji prep and mission, WROK camps and graduation week are all done together.
So you can choose... 'Year 13 Continuous'
Our Continuous option provides face-to-face lectures and group time at the Wanawong Campus in Loftus. It runs from Thursday morning to Friday afternoon over 24 weeks throughout the year, from February to November. You will spend Sunday and (usually) one other day at your ministry placement in your home church (or school). And then have some time (up to 2 days) for some part-time work.
You can think of your term-time week (roughly) like this:
2 days on campus; 2 days ministry placement; 2 days for work.
...OR... 'Year 13 Intensive'
Our Intensive option is a great alternative for people living away from Sydney. We have had students in the past from as far away as Tenterfield, Lismore and Broken Hill. Not to mention inter-staters from Melbourne and even Perth! That said, it is also a great alternative for students who just cant make it to the Loftus campus week-by-week.
You will live at our Sydney campus for two weeks in February, three weeks in April/May, come to Fiji in June/July, return to Sydney for 2 weeks in September, then complete the year with a 2 week final block in November. In between attendance blocks you will continue learning in our online community.
This flexible delivery is structured (as best we can) during the school holidays and allows you to tailor your year to accommodate more paid work or ministry service.
NOTE: International students may choose to finish the program at the end of July by completing the balance of the course learning online, allowing time to return home for the start of the Northern Hemisphere academic year.
A ‘Typical Week’ for Continuous Mode Students
A typical week during term time for a Continuous mode student serving primarily at a local church (e.g. as an assistant youth minister or children’s minister) may look like this:
- Sunday serving at church
- Second day serving at church and/or private study
- One day in a part-time job
- Second day of part-time job and/or private study
- Two days on campus (9.30am Thursday to 3pm Friday - back for Youth Group)
- One day of rest
A typical week during term time for Continuous mode students serving primarily at a school (e.g. as an assistant to the chaplain) may look like this:
- Two days serving at school
- Another day serving at school OR one day in a part-time job, if required
- Two days on campus (9.30am Thursday to 3pm Friday)
- Weekends for rest, church, and private study and online learning.
NOTE: Some churches/schools are resourced to employ a Year 13 student up to 2 days a week. In this case, the student may complete both their 2 days ministry placement and their 2 days part-time work in the one location.
