Authorisation Policy

Every person who seeks to be a teacher of Special Religious Education, and anyone who accompanies them onto NSW Government School premises, must be 'authorised' to do so. Authorisation is subject to the approval of your senior minister.

Authorisation Process

1. Safe Ministry Training

2. Working with Children Check

3. The SRE Engagement Form

This needs to be signed by your Rector or Minister-in-Charge and then submitted to Youthworks. A blue Authorisation Card when then be issued*.

4. Commit to undertaking Accreditation Training

*All blue cards are issued on a 2 year cycle with the next reissue in March 2012. 
Cards issued up to November 2010 will need to be reissued in March 2012 (minimum 13 months). 
Cards issued after November 2010 will be reissued March 2014 (maximum 37 months)

Sample Authorisation Letter to School

A letter should also be sent to the school at the beginning of each year with a list of authorised teacher who will be participating in SRE.

Cross-Authorisation

Denominations can agree to work together to provide SRE, usually under the label 'Protestant Scripture'. Each denomination involved will agree on a curriculum to be used and authorise teachers to teach on their behalf. The denominations should jointly notify the school in writing with a list of authorised teachers.

Continuation of SRE

A letter should be sent to the school at the beginning of each year (or the end of the previous year) with information about SRE for the upcoming year. This letter to the principal should outline the class teachers and anticipated schedule, as well as any changes you want made.
