Training Courses
Each course is a self contained unit but also builds on the principles and skills developed in previous courses. We recommend that you do the courses in the order suggested but every team is different and you know what your team needs. Some courses can be combined if there is limited time and opportunity to do training. Every team member also needs to do Safe Ministry.
Course 1: Youth Ministry Foundations (2 hours)
For any ministry to work it must have clear aims and a clear strategy to achieve those aims. We help groups take biblical principles and put them into a simple, systematic approach to youth ministry that reaches out to our youth and helps them grow up in Christ.
Course 2: Main Meetings that Work
Find out how to put together a program that compliments your goals and aims. How can you structure your youth group so that it's fun and attractive but also purposeful where youth can see and hear the message of Jesus.
Course 3: Creating a Mission Cultured Youth Ministry (2hr)
There are thousands of young people who have never heard the message of Jesus. How do we reach them? How do we equip our youth to reach their friends? How do we make the most of our groups to reach out?
Course 4: Upfront Skills (2 hours)
Learn how to design a youth meeting segment that teaches the Bible, encourages prayer and sharing and helps the group get involved. Learn the fundamental principles of presentation and take home some great ideas to use next week at youth group.
Course 5: Developing Great Leaders (2 hours)
Christian leadership is far more than putting together a program and delegating people to do it. And it is more than just turning up on Friday night. How can we be Godly role models who share our lives and our faith as disciplers and mentors?
Course 6: Developing Great Teams (2 hours)
It's not enough to just have good leaders- they need to work as part of a good team. This course is about recognizing roles and gifts and putting it all together to create teams that really make a difference.
Course 7: Small Groups That Work (2 hours)
Most small groups use a bible study book they have purchased to shape the discussion. How can we engage the different personalities in the group with each other and with the word of God. This course is a great guide to making the most of the opportunity.
Course 8: Small Groups Dynamics (2hrs)
A good study doesn't always lead to a good small group. The way you sit, where you sit, the personalities of the group, discipline all contribute to making a group work. Learn the principles and skill of running a good small group.
Course 9: Essentials of Youth Bible Teaching (2 hours)
The teaching time is a fundamental part of a good youth group. Learn how to understand a passage in context and break it down into the key ideas.
Course 10: Writing a Small Group Study (4 hours)
How to write your own Bible study from scratch. Learn how to package your study in a way that connects with teenagers and helps them to understand God and themselves better. You must do course 9 first.
Course 11: Teaching Times and Talks (4 hours)
What makes a teaching time? Learn how to package a talk into a structure that communicates well and how we can use different mediums of communication to help our youth engage with the word of God and challenge their lives.
Course 12: Engaging Teaching for the Next Generation (2hrs)
We want our young people to hear the word of God in a way that engages their culture, their learning styles, their mind and their heart. This is two hours that will open your eyes to a whole world of potential for how you teach.
Extra 1: Discipleship
We want to share our lives and the gospel with young people but often we just get stuck running programs. How do we create genuine communities with real relationships and real discipleship?
Extra 2: Discipline
It's very hard to tell young people about Jesus while they are swinging from the ceiling fan, it's also very discouraging. We will help you reshape the culture of your group and deal with the individual challenges.
Extra 3: Developing Small Youth Groups
You have 6 youth coming each week. It's a good start but we want to help you keep growing and prepare for a bigger future.
Extra 4: Parents
How do you see parents? Are they an asset or a major source of character building? This course aims to help teams think through the relationship between parents, the youth ministry and the leaders and how they can work together for our young people.
