Job Vacancy: Scripture Union NSW Sydney Schools Coordinator
Our Sydney Schools Coordinator oversees the work of our ISCF groups and SUPA clubs in Sydney. We have hundreds of volunteers involved in this ministry and the School's Coordinator assists, facilities, resources and trains these volunteers.
Reports To: Acting Schools Director (CEO)
Key Relationships: Volunteers in the Sydney region, administrative staff, SU regional staff
Direct Reports: Sydney Schools staff team members (currently none employed for 2012)
Overall Purpose: Promote, facilitate and encourage the work of Scripture Union NSW in schools in the Sydney region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pursue the objectives laid out in the SU NSW Strategic Plan as they pertain to ministry in schools in the Sydney area, in particular:
- Develop the ministry of ISCF’s in secondary schools across Sydney with an emphasis on recruiting, encouraging, and resourcing key volunteers (including and especially student leaders).
- Develop the ministry of SUPA Clubs in primary schools across Sydney with an emphasis on recruiting, encouraging, and resourcing key volunteers.
- Work with GenR8 to promote and strengthen the ministry of paid and volunteer Scripture teachers in Sydney’s public schools.
- Promote the habit of daily Bible reading at every opportunity, whilst also encouraging dependence on the Bible in all SU programs.
- Promote dependence on God through prayer in every way possible.
- Maintain and develop other SU programs that provide opportunities for mission amongst Sydney’s public school students (eg. HSC Lockdown; Schoolies in Vanuatu).
- Look for ways to develop synergies between schools ministry and SU’s ministry through camping and missions.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Ensure that all Sydney schools ministries conform to the Aims, Beliefs & Working Principles of SU NSW.
- Ensure that ISCF and SUPA clubs are working effectively in schools by working closely with volunteers and local churches.
- Ensure that positive networks exist to enable the growth of Scripture Union’s ministries by building and maintaining inter-denominational relationships in the various areas of Sydney.
- To work closely and strategically with the SU NSW Schools Committee which exists to support and assist the Sydney Schools Coordinator, and to develop schools ministry across NSW.
- Demonstrate openness to new missional ministry ideas that could facilitate achieving the goals of the SU NSW Strategic Plan.
- Raise financial and prayer support to sustain the Sydney Schools Coordinator position.
- Ensure appropriate legal and administrative requirements (according to Government and SU NSW policy) are met for or all volunteers in Scripture Union ministry in Sydney’s schools.
- Ensure that issues pertaining to safety and risk management are considered seriously in all Sydney schools ministry.
- Ensure that employees directly reporting to you have their contribution optimised by being involved in the selection decision, arranging training and development, conducting performance reviews, disciplining as necessary, and ensuring that all responsibilities are met under the policy guidelines of SU NSW
