We are currently reworking our children's ministry training but below is a list of current training opportunities for children's ministry.
The Bible Evangelism and Children (4 hours)
After considering theories of faith development, we will look at how to handle the Bible with children. We will address issues relating to children and evangelism. You will be given skills for evaluating evangelistic tracts, using age-appropriate language and knowing what is suitable context for evangelism.
Working Effectively with Boys / Girls (4 hours)
This workshop investigates the issues that are common to and different between ministry to boys and girls. Learn about these issues and how to effectively apply them in your boy’s, girl’s or mixed groups.
Music, Craft and Games (4 hours)
How to choose and run developmentally appropriate craft and games for both boys and girls. Lots of ideas to see and try.
Dynamics of Discipline - group management 1 (4 hours)
Understand the relationship between discipline and discipleship; understand the principles and practice of discipline.
Today's Child (4 hours)
This module educates participants in areas of child development, including Intellectual/Mental, Physical, Social, Emotional; and will orientate participants to the culture children find themselves in today.
Getting it Right (2 hours)
An opportunity to sit down and work through all those questions that kids ask and you wonder how to answer. The workshop looks at the tough question and gives you the resources to answer them.
Children with Special Needs (4 hours)
Understand special needs children and the effect they have on a group or classroom. Learn strategies for teaching and nurturing these children in Christian faith.
Recruiting Volunteers (4 hours)
Encourage and equip more volunteers for ministry. Discover some effective ways to recruit volunteers for SRE, children's and youth ministry.
Learning Styles / Creative programming (4 hours)
Think through the issues raised by teaching a group of children with a range of learning styles. The workshop includes concrete / abstract thinking and visual / kinesthetic learners.
Hook, Line and Sinker: Creative Storytelling (4 hours)
Learn and practise various story telling techniques that make storytelling come alive. Practice a variety of methods of storytelling including drawing, puppets, costume and drama.
Asking/ Answering Questions (2 hours)
How to handle difficult questions, and effectively use questions as a teaching method.
Drama in your Ministry (2hrs)
Drama offers more to your ministry than the last minute skit with a few kids dressed with tea towels. Learn about the hidden benefits in using drama in a planned and purposeful way.
The Child-Friendly Church (2hrs)
Many churches aim for the teenagers and adults and do not present in a relevant or understandable way for children. This workshop works through the basics in how to make you church time more friendly for children.
Integrated Children's Ministry (2hrs)
How do we integrate children’s ministry from birth through pre-school to infants, primary and into high school? This module looks at the ways in which we can integrate our ministries across the age groups.
How to run a Holiday Club (4hrs)
Holiday clubs are a great opportunity to reach into the community. This workshop thinks through the logistics and how to realise our aims in holiday club ministry.
How to run a ‘Super Saturday' (4hrs)
Think through the gospel and relational advantages of ministering to children in a different context to the "classroom". The workshop will outline the organisational and philosophical necessities for a fun filled and gospel relevant day out.
Making the Most of Playgroup Ministry (2hrs)
Playgroups are a great opportunity to minister to young children, but to minister to mums and dads as well. This workshop will look at the logistics of running a playgroup but will also address the need for integration with, and support from the church community.
Other Great Options
Children's Ministry Intensives at Youthworks College
Need some skills for ministry among children but don't have much time? Youthworks College offers short courses in children's ministry, held over six days in February each year. The subjects form part of the full time Diploma of Theology but can be completed as individual subjects. These are ideal for children's ministers or keen children's workers seeking further training in these ministry areas.

Diploma of Theology at Youthworks College
Our Youthworks College offers a two-year Diploma of Theology, which is awarded through the Australian College of Theology. With a unique combination of community study and ministry involvement, the Diploma aims to equip people of any age with specialised theological and practical training for sharing Jesus with children and youth.
